Candidacy for Juvéderm Voluma XC

HA-based fillers are typically biocompatible. Therefore, patients are not required to undergo a skin allergy test before treatment. However, it is still important for individuals to let Dr. LoVerme know if they suffer from any allergies before treatment.

Generally, suitable candidates for this nonsurgical cosmetic treatment include individuals who:

• Are a minimum of 21 years old
• Wish to enhance the cheek area
• Desire a slight lift throughout the treatment area
• Are not currently suffering from several severe allergies
• Do not have a history of several serious allergies or of anaphylaxis
• Do not knowingly suffer from gram-positive bacteria protein allergies
• Do not have a history of allergic reaction to lidocaine

Juvéderm Voluma XC Treatment

Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment is a quick procedure, performed in our office. It does not require any downtime, so you can receive treatment at lunch and return to your usual schedule right after.

Prior to starting treatment, Dr. LoVerme reviews your medical history and aesthetic concerns and evaluates your skin health. He can apply a topical anesthetic, if necessary, to ensure your comfort for the duration of treatment. The Boston plastic surgeon cleans the area to be treated, using alcohol or an alternate type of antiseptic. He injects a small amount of the filler into the treatment area, and might massage the area to ensure even distribution of the product. To minimize discomfort and swelling, an icepack may be temporarily applied to the treatment area, immediately after treatment. 

What to Expect Following Treatment

Because Dr. LoVerme uses a special blunt cannula for injection, most patients have minimal reaction to Voluma. There is minimal pain, and most patients do not experience any bruising. They are able to function normally that day and resume vigorous exercise activities the next day. Immediately following Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment, the treatment area may be swollen, red, tender or itchy. However, these are normal symptoms that should improve within about two weeks. You can apply an icepack to the cheek area to help relieve any discomfort.

Avoiding vigorous exercise, other strenuous activity and sun exposure for the first 24 hours following treatment is advised.

To optimize your outcome, you may choose to undergo a touch-up treatment about one month after your original procedure.
