He may apply a topical anesthetic, if needed, to maximize patients’ comfort throughout the treatment. Your plastic surgeon cleans the treatment area with an antiseptic, such as alcohol, prior to injecting a small amount of the product into the treatment site. Immediately after treatment, an icepack may be temporarily applied to the treatment site, to minimize swelling and discomfort. 

What to Expect After BOTOX Cosmetic Treatment

Immediately after BOTOX treatment, the treatment site may be itchy, red, swollen or tender, but symptoms are expected and should subside over time. Applying an icepack to the treatment area can help alleviate any discomfort.

Patients must avoid rubbing the treatment area for 12 hours and avoid lying down for three to four hours after treatment, to prevent the product from migrating to unwanted areas. They should also avoid strenuous activities, including exercise, immediately following treatment.
